Upcoming Events in Sonoma Area

The heart of wine country teems with events and activities. With over 400 wineries; a welter of art galleries, cafes, and restaurants; and parks and other recreational spaces, there is simply no excuse to sit and do nothing. So mark your calendars for some of these highly anticipated events in the Sonoma area:

June 2016

  • Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival – June 4
    This event offers a close-up look at more than 30 historic race cars at the Sonoma Plaza.
  • Huichica Music Festival – June 10-11
    The fest is a weekend of live indie and folk acts served with the area’s best cuisine from local chefs and finest wines from the 158-year-old Gundlach Bundschu Winery. This year promises to be the biggest and most diverse in the fest’s six-year history, organizers promise Visit the website for more information.
  • Broadway under the Stars – June 17 to September 11
    Transcendence Theatre’s series of concerts feature professional Broadway and Hollywood performers. The shows are scheduled in the open-air winery ruins of the Jack London State Park.
  • NASCAR 350 at Sonoma Raceway – June 24-26
    The Toyota/Save Mart 350 has been called “the biggest rush to hit the wine country.” It also features auctions, air shows, contests, and more. A shuttle bus at Sonoma Plaza ferries guests to the venue for free.
  • Friday Morning Farmer’s Market – Year round
    From 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon, the Arnold Field parking lot overflows with fresh fruit and vegetables, artisan breads, cheeses, and arts and crafts.

July 2016

  • Hometown Celebration – July 4
    Celebrate the Fourth of July in wine country! The Sonoma Plaza becomes the site for the annual parade featuring floats and horses, live music, and more. Stay for the spectacular fireworks show.
  • Napa-to-Sonoma Wine Country Half Marathon – July 17
    From Napa Valley to Domaine Carneros, runners can’t ask for a more beautiful place to race. The route cuts through breathtaking wine country with views from the vantage point of Mount Tamalpais.
  • Tuesday Evening Farmer’s Market – Year round
    Held at the town square, the market opens from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. It’s also become a social event, where locals linger over the food, browse the craft stalls, stay for the live music, and pick up the season’s best produce.
  • August 2016

    • Star Party: Perseid Meteor Shower – August 11
      The three main telescopes at the Robert Ferguson Observatory will be available to the public, with more to be set up for the event. There will also be related presentations. Activities begin at dusk.
    • The 43rd Gravenstein Apple Fair – August 13-14
      Under the shade of majestic oaks in the Ragle Ranch Park, visitors partake of old-fashioned fun. The fair also features live music on a two-stage set up, arts and crafts vendors, contests, local food, and a variety of craft beer, cider, and wine.
    • Red and White Ball
      This fundraiser for local schools is a dinner and dance party at the Plaza where guests are required to come dressed in red and white.
